Information for Closing Schools

On Nov. 21, as part of the Denver Schools Thrive Initiative and using direction from Executive Limitation 18 (EL-18), the DPS Board of Education voted to close seven schools at the end of the 2024-25 school year and restructure three schools beginning in the 2025-26 school year. If your child is currently enrolled in a school that will close at the end of this year, you are strongly encouraged to participate in SchoolChoice.
Most families of students currently attending a closing school (except for Castro Elementary) will now be included in an enrollment zone. This means that instead of being guaranteed a seat at your neighborhood, or boundary, school, you are guaranteed a seat at one of the schools included in your enrollment zone.
If your student has been impacted by school closures, they'll receive closing school priority if a SchoolChoice application has been submitted. This means they'll receive the highest priority that exists in our system.
